School Policies

If there is a change in the way your child is to go home, please notify the teacher in writing. Your child will be sent home the way you have instructed if the teacher does not have a note. If an EMERGENCY occurs during the day and you need to change the way your child goes home, please call the office before 2:30 PM (1:30PM Wed) and be prepared to give your security number.

All students who are dropped off prior to 8:25 AM are directed as follows:   Grades K-2 students are being directed to the covered PE area and grades 3-5 are being directed to the bus ramp covered area or  outside of their classroom.  Students do not enter the classrooms until the 8:25AM bell.

DO NOT drop off students in the handicapped area near the Kindergarten/First Grade building UNLESS you have a handicapped permit. Pull up to the car ramp and use the first available designated space 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Please DO NOT pull into the outside passing lane and stop to let your child out of the car. This is a through lane and it is not safe to do so. Also, please have your children on the passenger side of the car. They cannot get out of the car on the through lane (driver's) side.

Please observe the NO PARKING signs and the FIRE LANE areas in the parking lot. Also, all of the areas along both sides of Citrus Road are NO PARKING during arrival and dismissal hours. You can be given a ticket for parking in the handicapped spaces without a permit, parking where the NO PARKING signs are, or on the yellow curbs.

There is NO PARKING in the back lot by the cafeteria. This is reserved exclusively for the custodians, cafeteria workers and Extended Day workers. Please do not drop off any students for the morning Extended Day program after 8:00 AM.

ARRIVAL and DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

  • Drop-off begins at 8:05 a.m.  Adult supervision begins at this time.  Please DO NOT drop off early.
  • All students will report to their assigned holding station in the morning, where they will sit with their class.
  • The first bell rings at 8:25 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 8:35 a.m.
  • If your child arrives after the 8:35 a.m. tardy bell, you must escort your child to the front office to sign them in for the school day.
  • All car riders must be dropped off at the main entrance in front of the school.  Students may not be dropped off on the bus ramp or behind the school.
  • Cars dropping off students in the morning may use both lanes until the lanes merge into one at the last turn.
  • Students must exit the car on the passenger side to avoid walking between vehicles.
  • If your child forgets something at home, please take it to the front office no later than 9:00 a.m. This includes items for birthday celebrations.

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

  • Dismissal Times: (Times adjust one hour earlier on Wednesday)
  • 2:50 p.m. (1:50 p.m.) – K - 1 Car riders and older siblings
  • 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m.) – Bus Riders
  • 3:05 p.m. (2:05 p.m.) – 2-5 Car Riders, Day Care and Kid Zone
  • 3:05 p.m. (2:05 p.m.) – Walkers and Bike Riders
  • All transportation changes must be made before 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays).
  • Please hang your car sign on the rear-view mirror with your child’s name facing forward in the direction of the windshield.
  • When pulling up to the front of the school remain in a single file line to pick up your child.  Pull all the way up to the next available column. Do not pass the cars in the line.
  • Students must enter the car on the passenger side to avoid walking between cars.
  • Please refrain from picking up your child early unless it is an emergency or for a medical appointment.  If you must pick-up early, please make every effort to do so prior to 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays).  If you must sign out your child early, remember your security code.  Without your code and/or driver’s license (same procedure for those that you have granted permission to pick up your child), we cannot release your child.  Excessive early releases may negatively affect your child’s academic progress.
  • If your child is a car rider, please use the car line to pick up your child, do not park and take your child from the car line.  If you have an emergency, you must still sign your child out in the front office.  School personnel will not release your child to walk across the parking lot.

WALKERS AND BIKE RIDERS

  • Bike racks are provided for bike riders. Bikes must be walked up to the school after crossing over at the crossing guard closest to the school.  All bikes should be locked (Rainbow Elementary School and SCPS are not responsible for lost or stolen bikes).  All bike riders must wear a helmet.
  • If your child is a walker/bike rider, please ensure they have a backup plan for rainy day dismissal.

Thank you for your assistance with keeping all our Rockets safe!
